Fortress goods and resource records

Open All goods to see the colony's supplies and where they are kept. The number beside each good is the amount in storage. Its location line also lists goods loose on the ground or being carried. The initial list shows goods the colony holds. Use Find goods to search by a good's name or a storage place, including a known good whose current stock is zero.

Goods and the gold balance

The colony counts gold separately. Gold does not occupy stockpile tiles. Physical goods use the groups shown in a stockpile's settings, such as Food and drink, Dairy and cheese, Ore and fuel, and Arms and armour. The goods offered in these lists depend on the colony features in use. For example, hunting adds carcasses and meat, while named wheels need the colony's legends records.

Individual pieces and recorded materials

Arms and armour is a stock group that can contain different pieces. A piece's base, material and quality determine its actual item, stats and appearance. Named wheels also keep their own legendary identities. Other goods can retain records of their material, origin, maker or quality. Units with different records remain separate stacks. Freight carts, combat equipment, ammunition, named wheels and carcasses use whole units. Other physical goods can have fractional quantities.

Following a production chain

Each good's reference page lists recipes that use it as an ingredient and recipes that name it as their main or additional product. A recipe still needs its workplace, any required technique and the relevant colony feature. Forge orders choose their inputs from the piece and material you select. Coal and charcoal can supply the extra fuel used by smelting and metal forging. A forge or smelter beside lava can use that heat instead. Making steel still spends its coal ingredient even when lava supplies the heat.
