The game

Roguefort is set on Cantal, a continent where cheese is the economy and the source of all magic, and five Guilds are close to war over it. You play an affineur, and what you do from there is up to you. Crawl dungeons, sail the coast, run a homestead, pick a side, become a vampire, or spend a season fishing while trouble builds two towns over.

It's in the tradition of Caves of Qud and Dwarf Fortress, and the cheese is played completely straight. It's a deep open world I'm hoping you can disappear into for hundreds of hours.

Four ways to play all in Early Access

Adventure

The main game. One character on the handcrafted continent of Cantal, with the campaign, the five Guilds, cheesemaking, vampirism, sailing, homesteads and roughly 10,000 dungeons.

The Crossing rough edges

Adventure on a freshly generated continent, with cities nobody has seen before. It's the least tested mode, so expect a few surprises.

Fortress

A colony sim in the spirit of RimWorld and a lighter Dwarf Fortress. You run a settlement instead of one character: its people, farms, workshops and defences.

Survival: The Wilds

Your ship's wrecked and you wash up alone on a distant shore with 10 items. How long can you last?

Five Guilds, one war two alliances and a holdout

Cantal is split between two alliances, with one Guild sitting the war out. Each Guild has its own territory, culture and quests, and your standing with one ripples out to its allies. Commit to a side, or try to stay on good terms with everyone.

US$9.99, and buying in Early Access gets you everything through to 1.0, which is planned for 13 October 2027. I want as many people as possible to be able to play it, so I'm keeping it cheap.

If you've wishlisted it, Steam will email you when it goes live. Launch times for your part of the world, saves, co-op and the road to 1.0 are in the FAQ.

If you'd like to chip in beyond buying the game, there's a Ko-fi.
