Preventing and putting out fires

Keep flammable furniture, timber walls, timber floors and loose fuel away from hot work and lit hearths. Stone walls and stone paving do not burn. The fire warning names a nearby risk and gives time to remove the fuel or stop the heat.

When fire starts, time pauses. Settlers with Building labour can put out each burning tile using two stored water. They need a route and supplies, so check an unstarted extinguishing order if nobody responds.

Fire can spread to neighbouring fuel and damage people standing on burning tiles. A tile stays damp for a while after it is extinguished. Clear the nearby fuel before heating that area again.
