Consumables and food in Adventure

Eating while full

In Adventure, with hunger and thirst on, a mortal cannot eat ordinary food, a meal or a hunger-restoring cheese at 90 hunger or more. A healing table cheese is refused before its healing and buffs can apply. A cheese that restores no hunger can still be used. Vampires can eat despite their frozen hunger meter. The Send-Off's berry tasting can allow that bite while full.

One meal's buffs at a time

Eating a meal or a hunger-restoring cheese removes the buffs from your previous meal before applying the new ones. This still happens with Living Apothecary. Plain food, such as berries, does not replace those meal buffs. Buffs from equipment and cheeses that restore no hunger can stay alongside them.

Immediate healing

A pure healing cheese uses the greater of its flat recovery and its percentage of your maximum health, including equipment health bonuses. The percentage result is rounded to a whole HP. Character potency then multiplies that recovery, and missing health limits what you receive. The healing on a table cheese uses its flat amount instead. Using a healing cheese at full health can still spend it and give the world a turn.

Potency and rounding

For an ordinary healing cheese, consumable potency and healing item potency multiply separately. For example, 40% consumable potency and 60% healing item potency turn 10 HP into 22 HP after rounding. Consumable potency also extends the main timed effect and increases Manna recovery on the ordinary use path. Hunger and food hydration keep their listed amounts. Each scaled amount and duration is rounded to a whole number.

Compound effects

Check the item page when a cheese gives several effects. Added meal buffs keep their own listed strength and duration. Speed-and-cold cheeses keep both separate durations. Potency can extend Fire Aura and Frostfire, but their damage or regeneration amount stays fixed. Healing item potency does not strengthen Well Fed. These effects follow different rules from a pure healing cheese.

Ordinary cheese quality

Where an ordinary named cheese has a main timed effect, Fine quality extends that duration by 10%, Superior by 20% and Masterwork by 30%, rounded to whole turns. This happens before character potency. Quality leaves healing amounts, aura strength, added meal buffs and separate speed-and-cold durations unchanged. Season Wheels and custom spell wheels have their own rules.

Extra potion charges

Use an eligible item from a quick slot to benefit from extra potion charges. A successful roll keeps the item after its effect applies. Backpack use currently spends it even if the extra-charge roll succeeds. Eligible effects are immediate healing, healing table cheese, ordinary regeneration, damage, armour or vision buffs, hidden sensing and blood restoration. Other timed effects follow their normal consumption rules. A saved item still gives the world a turn when its effect normally costs one.

Poison and unsafe food

Raw meat and some wild mushrooms can apply Poison in Adventure. Status resistance can prevent the application. Poison-clearing cheeses remove Poison immediately and protect against its damage while their effect lasts. Sickness is a separate affliction. Ordinary healing restores health without removing either one.

Ales and teas

An ale and a tea can sit alongside your meal buffs. Their listed healing, bonuses, durations and thirst changes stay fixed as character potency increases. Another tea replaces the current tea pairing. Another ale is refused while you are Drunk.
