Chests, shelves and storage in Adventure
Count stacks, not individual items
Adventure containers hold stacks. A Small Chest, Shelf, Wardrobe or Weapon Rack has 4 slots, a Bookshelf has 16, a Large Chest has 20 and a Storeroom has 40. Manual deposits use the same item rules for all seven types. A Bookshelf can hold other goods, and a Weapon Rack can hold more than weapons. A full container can still take a deposit that joins a stack already inside. Different grades, freshness, charges or origins can keep otherwise similar goods in separate stacks.
Auto-stow and Stash mats
Auto-stow tops up matching stackable goods already in the container. It never opens a slot for a new kind. Stash mats moves materials and plants, joining existing stacks or filling free slots. Seeds, milk and food are not swept by Stash mats. Carried tools such as a Scythe, Beast Whistle or Milk Bucket stay in the pack. Retain keeps a pack stack out of both bulk buttons and prevents either from adding to a retained destination row. Stash mats can still place a separate stack in a free slot.
Retain and Protect in storage
Protect can keep stored goods from being consumed while still letting a matching plain stack join them. The arriving units inherit that destination row's protection. A matching plain destination row takes priority if both plain and protected rows exist. Protected goods do not merge into a plain row. Retain affects bulk movement separately. A deliberate whole-stack transfer can still move a retained stack, but the storage panel refuses a partial transfer from it.
Replace a container with a larger one
On the overworld, choose a container with more slots and place it over one you placed earlier. This also allows changes between types, such as replacing a Shelf with a Bookshelf. The new container costs its ordinary building price. The old one gives its normal Adventure refund, one quarter of each resource cost rounded down. The contents move into the new container. Any excess is dropped on the ground. A container with the same or fewer slots is refused. If an overfilled old container would spill goods, repeat the placement within 5 turns to confirm.
Demolishing your stocked container
Demolishing one of these stocked containers asks you to repeat the action on the same tile within 5 turns. Your stored items are handed back through the normal item grant rules. Goods that cannot fit are dropped at your feet. An empty container does not need this extra confirmation.
Home deliveries and fresh milk
Wayfarer’s Whey sends eligible goods to Small Chests, Large Chests and Storerooms within 25 horizontal and vertical steps in total from your home campfire. Shelves, Bookshelves, Wardrobes and Weapon Racks are not destinations for it. It tops up matching stacks across those containers before using free slots, then prefers nearer containers. Storage does not pause a milk pail's spoil clock. Once its spoil turn arrives, the storage readout and withdrawal treat it as Spoiled Milk.
