Backpacks and carrying space
The eight backpacks range from the Leather Satchel's 24 slots to the Portable Pocket Dimension's 100. These are base bag slots. Pack animals, saddlebags and active Pack Mules can add more room. Buying a larger bag upgrades your carrying capacity directly. There is no bag item taking up a slot in your pack.
Finding a bigger bag
General stores and merchants sell every larger bag their settlement size allows. Villages reach the Adventurer's Rucksack. Towns reach the Enchanted Knapsack. Cities and the Old Mouth can sell the full range. A vendor without a settlement-size limit can also offer every tier. You can skip straight to a bag you can afford. You pay that bag's offered price, with vendor modifiers, rather than the prices of all the skipped bags. Backpack upgrades add no standing, deed or Legend requirement.
Wheels, tools and seeds
Your first 8 carried war cheese stacks do not use ordinary pack space, whether they are assigned to the spell belt or not. The tool roll carries one hatchet or woodcutting tool, one pickaxe, one fishing rod, one scythe, one beast whistle and one milk bucket without ordinary pack space. A spare of the same tool kind costs a slot. A purchased Seed Pouch can carry up to 100 seed stacks without ordinary pack space. A stack counts once, however many seeds it holds.
