Fire, shelter and sleep in The Wilds
Gather fallen sticks for fuel and tinder. A picked-clean patch needs time to recover, so move to another patch when it refuses. You can split a plank or a length of tree wood into fuel, then shave fuel into tinder.
Lighting a fire needs tinder, fuel and either a ferro rod or a fireboard. Wet tinder, exposed rain, wind and a worn ferro rod lower the chance. An unsuccessful attempt still spends the tinder and fuel.
A fire warms you within two tiles. A shelter protects nearby ground according to its quality and condition. Wet gear loses warmth, and shelters wear down faster in rain. Thicken a debris shelter and repair worn cover before relying on it through cold weather.
Dry clothes and gear under cover or in dry weather. A fire makes drying faster, but open rain still prevents the drying job. Before sleeping, eat, drink and warm up. Cold, hunger or thirst can wake you before the eight hours are finished.
Sleeping uses the warmer of your bag and blanket, plus the best insulation beneath you. A mat, bed of boughs or hung hammock can help with the ground. A hammock needs a valid span between trees, and losing a supporting tree brings it down.
