Food, fishing and snares in The Wilds
Cook raw meat and fish before eating. Raw food has a 35% chance of making you sick, costing health and adding fatigue. Food that has spoiled cannot be eaten. Eating also restores body reserves according to the food’s energy.
Process a fresh carcass into raw cuts and fat. A cutting tool gives more cuts and makes the work quicker. Cook the cuts beside a lit fire, or preserve fresh cuts with salt or smoke. Smoking needs fuel and cord as well as the food.
Set a gill net on water or a snare on dry ground within two tiles of a tree. Return to Collect and reset trap before the catch spoils. Nets and snares wear out with use, and repeatedly harvesting one site reduces its catch chance.
Salted and smoked cuts can be kept longer, but preserved food makes you thirstier when eaten. Keep drinking water ready as well as a food store.
