Spell shapes and targeting

Spell range counts tiles with diagonal steps costing the same as straight steps. A beam or cone needs an aim point at least 1 tile away. A self spell is centred on you.

Bolts, beams and cones

A bolt strikes its aim tile. A beam travels from you through the aim point, hitting creatures along its path until blocked. A cone spreads from you in the aimed direction. Cone length uses the same tile distance for straight and diagonal aim.

Bursts, clouds and lobs

A burst or cloud covers a square around the aim point. Solid tiles and blocked sight can trim that area. A lob covers its square without the same wall filtering, so it can reach beyond obstacles.

Arcs

An arc starts on the aimed tile and jumps to nearby eligible creatures. Its bounce count is the number of further targets after that first landing. Each jump needs an unvisited target within chain range and a clear path.

Lingering zones

A cloud hits when cast, then leaves a zone. The zone uses the first status listed on the spell. Its damage uses wheel quality, while its reapplied status duration uses the spell duration stored when the zone was made.

Targets and allies

Your own conjured creatures are excluded from direct spell hits. Other friendly protection depends on the effect and the Spare townsfolk run rule. Use the target preview to see the affected tiles.
