Burial and memorials
Build a coffin and keep a route to the body. Haulers collect an unburied settler and carry them to a free coffin. A blocked stair or corridor can stop the burial even when the coffin is ready.
A burial gives the surviving settlers a memory of the person being laid to rest. A coffin in an enclosed room makes that memory stronger. A memorial names a fallen settler and helps replace the ordinary death memory with remembrance. An occupied coffin and an engraved memorial cannot be demolished.
Do not leave a body lying ten or more levels underground. After three days it can rise and head for the stairs. Burial prevents that. The deepest levels can produce a different kind of revenant.
