Oak Seed
Use Plant Tree to plant this seed. The ground determines whether the tree grows standard or grand.
| Grows into | Oak |
|---|---|
| Planting this tree | Choose Plant Tree from Build, then choose Oak Seed in the seed picker. Plant on open grass or tall grass on the surface. A creature on the target prevents planting. |
| Seed and turn cost | One seed and one turn for each sapling planted. There is no wood, stone, gold or crystal cost for the Plant Tree tool. |
| Choosing and protecting a stack | Uses the selected seed kind if held, otherwise the first tree seed in the pack. This route currently does not check Protect, Retain or an old full lock before spending the seed. The crop plot menu has different protection checks. |
| Grand size | The ground uses a 25% grand-size threshold for this species. The result is fixed by the position and species. Replanting the same spot does not roll a different size. There is one seed kind for the species, shared by standard and grand trees. |
| Growing in ordinary Adventure | A standard tree needs 40 growth turns and a grand tree needs 72. With continuous water, that is 40 or 72 world turns. With uninterrupted dry weather, it is 79 to 80 or 143 to 144 world turns, depending on the planting turn. |
| Watering and growth stages | Rain or a water barrel within 3 tiles, including diagonals, supplies the faster rate. A standard sapling becomes young at 13 growth turns and a grand one at 24. Growth catches up when the loaded chunk is processed. |
| Growing in The Wilds | Newly planted standard trees take about 8 dry days and grand trees about 12. A day of rain counts as two dry days of growth. Trees already planted keep the growth target saved on them. |
| Mature planted trees | Both standard and grand planted trees occupy one tile. A grand tree has a larger canopy picture. Standard trees mature with 3 health and grand trees with 5. The finished tree uses its species and the appearance chosen by its planting position. |
Planted tree growth with spoilers
These pictures show the sapling, young tree and possible mature appearances. The planting position fixes whether the tree is standard or grand and which mature appearance it keeps. Grand crowns are twice as wide and tall in the 2D view, while the trunk occupies one tile. These are foreground pictures before ground, wind, seasonal changes, lighting or fading beneath the crown. The main image shows the carried seed.
