Playing with friends

Co-op supports up to four players. Choose Play with friends, then host a game or join one. In the Steam version, you can accept an invitation, use Join Game from your friends list or enter the host's join code. A Steam join code works between Steam friends.

Open Pause, then Co-op to change the party settings. The host chooses the turn mode, the distance at which players share turns and an optional auto-pass timer. Nearby players share the same group, including a chain of friends standing near one another.

Simultaneous lets everyone act freely. Strict waits for nearby players to take one action each before the world takes a turn. Strict in combat switches to shared rounds when a nearby enemy threatens the group, then relaxes after the threat has passed.

A menu does not pause friends nearby. If the turn alert is waiting on you, close the menu and move, act or choose Wait. The calendar, weather and production remain shared even when the party separates.

Update both games before joining

Both players need compatible game builds. If the game says the versions or builds cannot play together, update both games to the latest version and rejoin. The Waystone update also changes the co-op connection format, so matching version numbers alone do not guarantee compatibility.
