Expanding the family home

Four household levels

A newly married family begins in a snug cottage at level 1. The next levels are a comfortable house, a fine household and a grand family home. Open the family panel and choose Expand the home. Each success raises the household by one level. At level 4, the panel says Your home is as grand as it gets.

Costs and payment

Level 1 to 2 costs 20 wood, 12 stone and 25 gold. Level 2 to 3 costs 40 wood, 24 stone and 50 gold. Level 3 to 4 costs 60 wood, 36 stone and 75 gold. The panel calls the gold coin. Payment uses the acting character’s pack, eligible nearby building stores and resource purse. The store reach is 20 tiles, counting horizontal and vertical distance together. Protected material stacks stay reserved. Retain alone does not reserve building materials.

Wellbeing and the recovery target

Each successful expansion adds 10 wellbeing and 4 partner bond, capped at 100. A fed household’s normal recovery target rises through 55, 70, 85 and 100 wellbeing. These targets are not absolute limits. For example, a new family starts with 58 wellbeing in its level 1 cottage, and fed recovery does not pull that value down to 55.

Food has a separate limit

The larder holds at most 30 days of food at every home level. Expanding neither stocks it nor raises that limit. Bring home food uses a separate wellbeing rule. It adds at most 8 wellbeing but clamps the result to the home’s normal recovery target plus 10, up to 100. If wellbeing is already above that value, bringing food can lower it. At level 1, that clamp is 65.

Residence and co-op

Expansion improves the household record. It does not draw a larger house, move family members or place beds. Use the separate move-in and bed controls for residence. In co-op, the joiner’s expansion request waits for the host to check payment for the acting character before applying it. The current expansion action does not advance a world turn.
