Breeding livestock and collecting produce
Bring ready partners together
In Adventure, both animals need happiness above 80, breeding switched on and no breeding rest remaining. Put compatible partners next to one another, including diagonally. Dairy and Golden Cows share a breeding family, as do Dairy and Moonlit Goats, Milk and Ironwool Sheep, and Mountain and Alpine Yaks. Other species breed with their own kind. Frost Ewe, Ember Auroch and Moon Hare each have their own separate family. The Animals panel shows which requirement an animal is missing.
A chance each overworld turn
A ready breeding family gets about one chance in 500 for a birth each active overworld turn. The game picks the first ready adjacent pair in its herd list. More ready pairs in the same family do not add more rolls that turn. With readiness and space maintained, 500 such turns is the average wait, rather than a fixed deadline. Each family can have at most one birth in a turn. Breeding rolls and breeding rest advance through the overworld livestock tick.
The herd limit covers the whole family
A family stops producing young once the whole recorded herd has 10 members of that family. A cow family counts Dairy and Golden Cows together, even when they live far apart. Animals with breeding switched off still count. This is a birth limit, so buying or taming more animals can take ownership above 10.
Rare young
A mixed pair passes on the species of the rarer parent. A successful birth then has an 8% roll for an explicit species upgrade. Dairy Cow can give Golden Cow, Dairy Goat can give Moonlit Goat, Milk Sheep can give Ironwool Sheep and Mountain Yak can give Alpine Yak. Other species have no further upgrade through this roll. An upgraded newborn uses its new species artwork. A same-species young animal can inherit a parent’s kept artwork, while its own identity determines its coat.
Leave room for newborns
A birth needs a free tile within two tiles of the first parent, including diagonally. The search avoids animal records, live creatures, the player and ground livestock cannot walk on. If there is no suitable tile, no newborn appears and the parents do not begin their breeding rest. Successful parents each rest for 1,000 active overworld turns. Newborns start owned, at full species health, with 60 happiness and their own 1,000-turn breeding rest. Produce timers start at their full species intervals. Nearby newborns start in Stay mode.
Switch breeding off
Right-click an owned animal and choose Stop [name] breeding. Let [name] breed again switches it back on. These orders do not take a turn. The Animals panel also offers Breeding off, all nearby and Breeding on, all nearby. Each reaches owned animals within 8 horizontal and vertical steps in total from the acting player. A breeding switch stays with the animal when you leave the area.
Independent produce timers
Milk, wool, silk and eggs have separate readiness timers. A newborn starts with a full timer for each product it makes. Active overworld turns reduce these timers to zero, including while the animal is unfed. A ready timer holds one batch. Waiting longer does not build a reserve. A successful collection resets that product’s timer before spending the action turn. That action turn begins the new countdown. A sheep or yak can therefore be milked and sheared on separate schedules. Milk, wool and eggs refuse collection at 500 unfed turns. Silk has no such refusal.
Milk quality and the stool
Each species page lists its base milk yield and interval. Multiply base yield by current milk quality and round to the nearest whole unit, with at least 1 milk. A Milking Stool beside the animal multiplies this amount by 1.5 before rounding. It also adds 10 percentage points to the quality of collected milk, capped at 100%. The extra quality is applied after the quantity calculation. Use the stool’s Milk action for this bonus. Bare-handed Milk from the animal’s menu uses the ordinary amount. At 100 happiness, wool gives its species base yield. Current silk and egg species each give 1 per collection throughout the usual 0 to 100 happiness range.
Moon Hare culture
Successfully milking a Moon Hare beneath a strong full moon also attempts to give 1 Moonculture. This uses the moon’s contribution to the night sky, which must exceed 55%. It is zero during daytime. The culture can be collected again after each 45-turn milk interval while the sky still qualifies. The milking bonus has no roof or biome check. Milk and culture have separate delivery attempts, so a full pack can send either to the ground or leave it lost when no space is available.
