Example: A person who saw the deathAn entry in a settler’s life story. The event records what happened, while memories and current circumstances govern lasting feelings.

| What it means | A death on the home map is felt first by those who see it. Others can learn through news, finding the body or the missed-settler check. A death away from home uses the separate colony-wide loss route. |
| Reading the event | Open Settlers, select the person and open Life. Why follows a recorded cause. What followed shows events directly linked to it. The entry can also appear in the lives of the other people involved or recorded as witnesses. |
