The Hungering Dark
An Undermaw threshold on floor 10. Vampire potency of at least 40, or a Rind Dominion or Compact alignment. Sympathizer, Aligned and Committed all qualify.
| Descent band | The Undermaw, floors 10 to 12. |
|---|---|
| Where the ward is checked | On the down stair of floor 10. A nearby formation marks the area, but stepping onto that formation is not the trigger. |
| Cross without the health cost | Vampire potency of at least 40, or a Rind Dominion or Compact alignment. Sympathizer, Aligned and Committed all qualify. |
| If no requirement matches | The ward costs up to 17 health. It cannot reduce you below 1 health and does not block the descent. This only describes the ward’s own toll. Other dungeon damage can still kill you. |
| Repeated crossings | A floor’s ward resolves once in the saved game. Returning across it or reloading does not charge the same ward again. The first resolution is recorded whether you passed freely or paid health. |
| Calm the band’s guardian | The same requirements can pacify this band’s roving miniboss when you come adjacent to it. Diagonal neighbours count. For a large creature, distance uses its nearest occupied tile. |
| Where to meet that guardian | The seed chooses floor 10 or 11. It is separate from the final floor’s boss. |
| What pacification changes | It clears the guardian’s present aggression and makes it passive. It does not kill the creature or grant a kill reward. Attacking a passive creature can provoke it again. |
| Whose strengths are checked | Level, Lattice charges and vampire potency come from the character taking the turn. Companion count uses the current roster, and Lost Codex progress uses the read-book record. The ward does not require a companion to be active or nearby. |
