Wiki preview
A Standard-Bearer
A hired bearer who raises your colours on suitable settlement ground.
| Where to hire | Open the Homestead Ledger and choose Patronage. Choose this retainer. No Patronage standing or level is required by the hire control. |
|---|---|
| Hiring fee | 12,000 gold, or 1 Reserve token. A token is used automatically when available and covers the whole hiring fee. |
| Hire title | The Bannered. It is added to the acting character’s title list. The wage tick does not remove an already earned title. |
| Recurring wage | 19 gold per 500 turns. The ordinary cellar and retinue check runs every 25 world turns. This fixed wage is separate from Counting House and Cooper’s Art. |
| Wage cycle | The first retainer starts a new 500-turn wage cycle. A retainer added to an existing retinue joins its current cycle, so their first bill can come sooner. Cellar dues are paid before retinue wages. |
| If gold runs short | The cheapest hired retainers leave first until the remaining bill fits the purse. Someone who leaves can be hired again. Your other possessions are not seized to cover this wage. |
| Hire limits | You can hire each of the three retainers once at a time. Hiring does not spend Patronage standing. The title, wage and presentation listed here add no combat or worker-stat bonus. |
| Raised colours | On a displayed settlement arrival, tries to raise one banner near the arrival or a nearby gate. It needs suitable ground and a clear place away from the player, living creatures and a gap between walls. |
| Banner colour and departure | The colour is chosen from the character’s name. The banner comes down when the locally viewed player changes zone. An already raised banner can remain until then even if unpaid wages make its bearer leave. |
| Town reactions | While the standard stands for a settlement, a conversation can mention it when no earlier opening takes priority. The banner has its own Your Standard readout and does not change the ground you can walk on. |
Raised standard example with spoilers
This picture shows a banner raised for Ada at one suitable arrival position. The character’s name selects its colour. It is the Standard-Bearer’s output, rather than a portrait of the retainer. Hiring a retainer does not create a person on the map. Ground, wind and lighting are not included in this foreground picture.
