Wild Stag
| Off-road base speed | 3 |
|---|---|
| Road base speed | 3 |
| Special terrain | +1 base speed in Forest and Glade, on roads and off-road |
| Ride and lead | Use the mount item from your pack to bring it out in the overworld, while out of a boat. A calm mount starts in Lead mode. A mount still within its fear deadline stays skittish. Choose Ride from your own or your led mount’s right-click menu. Ride, Dismount, Bring out and Stable do not spend a turn. You can have one brought-out mount at a time. |
| Where riding works | Overworld and the shared hubs, The Old Mouth and the Plane of Heroes. Riding in a hub does not grant the overworld mount speed. You cannot choose Ride while sailing, sneaking or still skittish. |
| Roads and footpaths | The road base applies on major and minor roads. A Footpath or beaten trail uses this mount’s off-road base instead. Riding takes the higher of the mount base and the tile’s walking base, before later bonuses and penalties. |
| Other speed bonuses | Terroir, companion passage and ordinary speed buffs can still alter ridden movement. Pack-animal road bonuses and the vampire road speed boost apply while leading rather than riding. Leading can therefore be faster than riding in some combinations. Faster movement does not shorten ordinary attacks or other full-turn actions. |
| Saddlebags while brought out | This mount grants no extra backpack slots. |
| Weather and snow while riding | Has no innate immunity to the ordinary weather speed penalty. Has no innate immunity to the deep standing snow movement penalty. These mount immunities require riding. Stamped roads, including Footpaths, avoid the deep standing snow penalty. Bare beaten trails can still pay it. Other bonuses can provide their own protection. |
| Panic after a creature hit | A creature hit with positive damage after the hit’s mitigation has a 30% chance to make a ridden mount skittish for 50 turns. This dismounts you. The panic check can still happen when temporary health or Rind absorbs all health damage. Choose Ride again when the deadline has passed. Stabling and bringing it straight back out preserves the fear deadline. |
| Befriend route | Offer a calm Great Stag a Heartwood Bolete, or a flora item marked Legendary that uses the mushroom symbol. The offering comes from your pack. Stand within 5 tiles in either direction, have no brought-out mount and use Befriend. Success spends one offering and one turn, removes the wild body and gives the mount in Lead mode. A fleeing stag refuses. Protect and Retain do not exclude eligible pack offerings on this route. |
