Sending a scout
Open the world map and choose Send scout to send a winged companion towards a marked spot. It must be active, old enough to have left the hatchling stage and rested from its last flight. Species and level determine its range. Some flyers can scout at night or launch from a cave entrance, while others need daylight and open sky.
A scout marks explored ground and discovers places along its route, then returns towards you. You can keep travelling while it is away. It does not fight or provide its usual passive help during the flight. In a shared game, only the host can send a scout, and the companion must belong to that player.
Flying over danger can hurt a scout. If its health falls below half while flying out, it turns back early. Scouting damage cannot reduce it below 1 health. After landing, it rests for 40 turns plus one turn for every two tiles of the planned outward route, rounding up.
