Choosing the pace of a colony
Story pacing controls the timing of threats and other events. Rising pressure builds over time, Gentle leaves longer quiet stretches, and Unpredictable varies the timing and size. Off keeps the earlier fixed schedule. Threat intensity is a separate setting for attack size.
Threat size takes account of people, stored wealth, defenders, depth and clamour from below. Recent deaths, incapacitated settlers and lost goods can ease the pressure. Changing the setting does not remove a threat that is already on its way.
