Boar
Wild game on the Fortress map has its own colony health and hunting rules. Its carcass can be butchered for the yields listed here.
| Mode | Fortress colonies with hunting. Adventure wildlife uses separate statistics and taming rules. |
|---|---|
| Health | 80 in newly founded colonies using the current combat scale. Older hunting colonies retain 36. |
| Biomes | Plains, Forest, Glade, Taiga, Wetland. These are eligible biome pools, not a guaranteed animal at every site. |
| Herd size | 1 to 2 before the remaining local game capacity is applied. |
| Meat from one carcass | 7 Raw meat. Current colony health scaling does not multiply this yield. |
| Hide from one carcass | 1 Hide when the colony has forge support. Older colonies without that support omit hide. |
| Fighting back | A surviving hit can provoke the boar and nearby boars of its herd within 4 tiles, including diagonals. Its ordinary gore starts at 6 damage in current colonies or 5 in older hunting colonies, before armour, with an 8-action-step cadence. |
| Hunter selection | A hunter below 50 health cannot take or keep this hunt. A free hunter with a loaded ranged weapon is preferred over an unarmed worker. A free ranged hunter with more than 25 but less than 50 health can block a healthy unarmed worker from starting a new Boar hunt, despite being too hurt to take that hunt. |
| Fresh carcass | One carcass is left by the successful hunting kill. Its warm freshness budget is 2 days. Cold conditions use freshness at one third of the warm rate. |
Carcass artwork with spoilers
This is the dead-body artwork used for this animal’s carcass in Fortress. It has its own sprite and keeps its native orientation. The live animal is shown above. Lighting and the ground beneath can change its appearance.
